Could It Be?

Have you noticed a change? Stuck your head out the door lately? It's starting to look like Spring! Even the birds are chirping a bit different. I've been thinking about Spring for a few weeks now. I think it started when I purchased the above pictured container of hummus and noticed the word "Summer" (nothing like getting the wheels turning). Keep in mind that I love the winter season but it's time to move on to Spring. Change is always good for the soul. With that in mind, time to start thinking Easter (chocolate!!), spring flowers (I planted about 50 Daffodils last fall. Can't recall exactly where but maybe the squirrels remembered), opening windows and firing up the barbeque. I'm hoping that if this weather continues, I can soon get my bicycle out. I've already started a list of "challenges" of where I would like to cycle this year. By the way, in case you were wondering, the hummus was excellent. I usually make my own but I couldn't resist this one since it contained "eggplant". Delish!!

Got Leftovers?

Got any leftovers? No, I'm not talking about Sunday night dinner with the whole family and the minister's brother. I'm talking about leftover blocks and fabric.

I finally got Neil's quilt done but there were a couple of blocks that he particularly wasn't too keen about. "They're pink", he exclaimed! "I don't want a quilt with girlie colours in it". Oh Neil, what would the guys at the office think or even your hockey team mates. You could become an outcast! Alright, alright! I eliminated them and replaced them with "blue" blocks. However, what does one do with the "rejects"?...Put them on the back! I then got another idea with the leftover batik plus I had another stack from a previous quilt that I made a few years ago. (I'm on a reduce and reuse circuit these days!!) I cut up the access into 5" squares and started sewing them back together for the backing. Sounds like a great idea. Right? Wrong! I spent yesterday afternoon cutting & sewing and I'm only half way there!! But at least the pile of batik fabric has diminished. I told/instructed myself that I wasn't permitted to start a new project until the backing was done. I'm determined! Neil will be relieved since it has been over a year and a half wait for his quilt. "How come everyone else gets a quilt that's actually finished? When is it going to be my turn"? Poor thing!! Soon Neil. Very soon!

My Favorite Place!

It will soon be two years that I fixed/completed this corner of the kitchen. Do you recall? There used to be a "butt ugly" bench that I vowed to tear out when I put down a new kitchen floor. However, this "butt ugly" bench was hiding heating duct work and I had to great creative to hide is once and for all. Ringing any bells? Before closing and sealing up the corner, I put a "time capsule" in the wall. Sound familiar? How could you have forgotten? However, what has transpired in that little corner of the kitchen is my favorite place to be in the whole wide world. This little corner of the world now houses a funky chair where I read my daily newspaper, drink coffee/wine (depending on the time of day. Hey, it's wine time some place in the world!!), do some stitching and more reading. Did I mention that it's also in the corner of the kitchen. Right by the refrigerator/cupboards. Another favorite place of mine! Have you not seen my hips and thighs?
This is my world as you see it! Actually, there usually is a struggle between Neil and I of who gets the chair first. I being the gracious host, usually gives in first, most of the time. You see, the chair has a built in foot rest and it's heaven!! So, early in the morning or after a long day of "saving lives and stomping out disease", you will find me here! Wearing my pajamas and reading the daily news. Life is good! I wouldn't have it any other way!
