1st Border Done!

Here is a sneak peak of the 1st border for the Spring Fling Round Robin #3 block that I received. I can't show you any more that this!! It's a surprise. The block was posted to the next quilter who will add the 2nd border. I had way too much fun with this one! My friend Nellie would be overjoyed with my colour choice. She has to be the only person that I know that is absolutely crazy over the colour orange. (Sorry Nellie, but it is a well known fact!!)

Another Family Birthday!

This past weekend, we celebrated Pat's birthday (Neil's mom). She is 86 years of age (don't tell her that I mentioned her age on my blog!) Let me tell you a bit about Pat or Patricia, which sometimes I do refer to her as...she is originally from Surrey, England and was a War Bride. Alf (Neil's dad) and Pat met during the war and were married in June 1946. In the spring of 1947, she came to Canada by ship and docked in Nova Scotia. From there, she boarded a train and travelled to Calgary, Alberta where she started her new life in Canada with Alf. She vividly recalls all the details of her trip and the names of the ladies, who were also War Brides, that sat beside her on her long journey. Pat has the most interesting stories about her life growing up in England which I thoroughly enjoy hearing. Happy Birthday Pat! With much love from your family!

Bloggers Quilt Festival

I received an invitation to participate in the "Bloggers Quilt Festival" from a fellow blogger. Check out the website http://parkcitygirl.blogspot.com. I love "show n' tell so I'm in!! (Do you recall doing this in grade school?) After combing through my expanding quilt collection, I decided on this one...Sawtooth. I would definitely put this one in the "Never to Be Made Again" category. I made this quilt in November 2003 (I checked the label which is an absolute must when completing a quilt. One would think that you will remember all the details when you make a particular quilt but you know you don't! Heck, I can't even remember where I planted all my tulips from last fall!! It's always a pleasant surprise every spring!) I remember piecing this quilt which seemed to take forever!! I thought I would never see the end. It's stored away in the linen press in my living room. I haven't had a good look at it in several years. It's a gentle reminder of my past quilting experiences.

Richard Mund Pottery

A trip home wouldn't be the same without a stop in Neustadt, Ontario to visit my friend Richard. I have been collecting his pottery for many years now (one can never have enough bowls!! I should have shown the various assortment from my own kitchen for proof) which is very decorative and functional.

My Other Sister's Kitchen

On the subject of kitchens or "The Gathering Place" here is my other sister, Shelley's kitchen. This is her own design which was three years in the planning stages. Very modern looking in comparison to Evelene's kitchen but functional indeed. Gotta have one of those sinks!! Great way to use the corner of the counter since there is no window to look out when scouring pans.

The Gathering Room

Neil and I went home for Easter over the weekend to spend time with family and friends. Sunday was spent with my family at my sister, Evelene and her husband Ray's home on a farm outside of Wingham, Ontario. They have the biggest kitchen and dining room that will accommodate the entire family (20 in all). There sure were some pretty nice aromas coming from that kitchen!! Everyone pitches in to help out. If you were wondering, the kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher!!

Happy Spring! Happy Easter!

I remembered that it was Easter. And then I kinda forgot but then recalled it one more time. Neil and I are heading home (Harriston, Ontario) to spend Easter with my family. I haven't been home for Easter in several years due to the distance and frankly, I'm always working the long weekend. I will certainly post pics of our trip with I'm sure, a story or two to tell. I'm getting excited just thinking about it because there is a quilt shop along the way that is an absolute must. I usually send Neil down the street to do an errand which gives me more time to browse. I'll tell more later.
